NEW FACADE & ADDITION ON THE LEFT SIDE

Lyon Village Residence 2 - Sustainability ahead of time

This home showcases the beauty and effectiveness of blending the old with the new. It has the character and charm of an old home but the fresh, livable aspects of a contemporary one. To preserve the home’s original scale and character, we stayed within the original footprint and reused all materials. For instance, after we transformed the original porch into a new entry, we reused the bricks from the demolition to create an additional wall. Where we lacked bricks, we parged the concrete block walls. This budget-oriented solution helped highlight the home's coexisting old and new characters. The newly designed modern and energy-efficient fenestration did so as well, by beautifully juxtaposing with the textured walls. To design a spacious lower level, we combined the existing space and the previous garage. That allowed the creation of three bedrooms and a playroom. Wanting openness and unity throughout the entire house, we remodeled the attic to look upon the new open-floor living room space. Throughout the project, we practiced selective demolition to ensure we utilized the existing building as a participating element in the new design. This cutting-edge project, completed in 2012, beautifully blended the old and the new, creating a cozy yet contemporary home.
